Underwater searches utilizing side-scanning sonar equipment have located hundreds of shipwrecks. Underwater archaeology in the form of site documentation is a major activity of many Scuba diving organizations. See the Features page for more about this. Research studies collect the background and tell the story of these steamers, schooners and barges of our past.
